Recycling doesn't need to be a huge life changer nor does it need to be hard work.
There are a few simple ways you can change your lifestyle which can make a huge impact on the environment.
Here are our top tips:
- Learn a new skill and up-cycle your old furniture. You can find some great ideas here.
- Avoid wrapping leftovers and sandwiches in cling film. Use Tupperware boxes instead to eliminate waste.
- To reduce recycling at home, try and avoid buying fruit and vegetables from the supermarket that are already in packaging, buy them loose instead.
- Make sure you're cleaning the items you put into the recycling. If not, you're at risk of cross contaminating meaning the item will be discarded rather than recycled.
- Have 2 separate bins, one for recycling and one for your main rubbish. You can also extend this to all rooms of the house.
- You can recycle aerosols cans. Ensure they are completely empty, do not pierce or flatten the cans.
- You can also recycle foil from your kitchen, ensure it is clean before you put it into the bin.
- Instead of throwing out old toys, send them to a charity shop.
- Use your old items to keep the kids entertained by creating something new.
