Healthy breakfasts your kids will love!

Your kids can't tuck into Coco Pops every day – so how about getting them involved in healthy breakfast recipes they'll love to prepare and eat?

We've come up with four tasty breakfast ideas for kids that they'll enjoy eating almost as much as they'll enjoy creating.

So check out our healthy breakfast recipes…

Breakfast trifle

Ingredients

Greek yogurt with honey
Soft fruits (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries)

Method

It's a fruity yogurt but presentation is everything – and that includes an appealing name. Place alternating layers of fruit and yogurt in a glass, topping with a little more fruit. The sweetness of the honey will cut through any sharpness from the soft fruits. Remember that young bones build better with full-fat dairy products.

Super smoothie

Ingredients

One banana
Two handfuls of frozen mixed berries
One cup fruit juice (apple or orange work best)

Method

Tip everything into a blender or smoothie maker and blitz until lump free. Pour into a tall glass and serve with wholemeal toast. Three of their five a day in one drink – and using frozen berries means there's no ice to make your smoothie watery. And it proves healthy breakfast recipes can be packed full of flavour.

Overnight oats

Ingredients

150 grams rolled oats
150 ml milk
150 ml Greek yogurt
One banana
Handful of strawberries
Teaspoon of honey

Method

A healthy breakfast recipe that's ready and waiting for you in the fridge. Slice the banana and strawberries and mix in an airtight container with the rest of the ingredients. Seal and store overnight in the fridge. Serves four – and fires them up for the day.

Greatest granola bars

Ingredients

250 grams rolled oats
75 grams flaked almonds
100 grams runny honey
Four tbsp smooth peanut butter
50 grams sultanas
50 grams dried apricots, finely chopped
50 grams dates
One tsp cinnamon

Method

Breakfast ideas for kids can take a little preparation but this one will make your kitchen smell great.

Preheat the oven to 180C. Spread the almonds and oats on a greased a baking sheet and place in the oven for about 15 minute, or until lightly golden.

Heat the honey and peanut butter in a small pan. While it warms gently, blitz the dates with a little water to form a paste. Stir this in with the honey and peanut butter.

Place all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl, add the honey mixture and mix well. Spoon the mixture on to the greased baking tray and press down with the back of the spoon. Bake for 15 minutes or until it's golden brown and smelling delicious.

Leave to cool slightly, turn out, slice and store in an airtight box.
